Johnson, 27, reportedly filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, claiming his parents were the reason for his financial plight.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Johnson granted power of attorney to his mother, Tina Johnson, that gave her full control of his finances before he signed his seven-year, $30.5 million deal in 2011. Among Johnson’s claims is that his parents borrowed $15 million against his future earnings and used his money on new cars, a home in Manhattan Beach and upgrades to the property. Many of the loans carried high interest rates, according to the Dispatch.

“I’d say I picked the wrong people who led me down the wrong path,” Johnson told The Dispatch last week. “I’ve got people in place who are going to fix everything now. It’s something I should have done a long time ago.”

The former University of Michigan star began his career in Los Angeles with the Kings.
