Blue Jackets nearing extension for Bobrovsky

It appears the Columbus Blue Jackets are close to a deal with goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.

Sergei Bobrovsky is staying with the Columbus Blue Jackets after all.

After there was speculation the Blue Jackets were shopping their starting goaltender, the club is close to finalizing a contract extension with Bobrovsky Sunday evening.

Bobrovsky was a huge success in his first season in Columbus. The 24-year-old had a 21-11-6 record with a 2.00 goals-against average and .932 save percentage en route to winning his first career Vezina Trophy.

The Blue Jackets acquired Bobrovsky last summer from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for three draft picks, including a 2012 second-round pick (No. 45) and fourth-round (No. 117) and a fourth-round pick in 2013.

The Russian goaltender is scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 5.
