Blue Jackets’ Ryan Murray leaves game with ‘upper body injury’

Watch as Ryan Murray of the Columbus Blue Jackets is injured after colliding with Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook.

Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Ryan Murray left Friday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks and will not return after suffering an upper-body injury.

With over six minutes remaining in the first period, Murray attempted to lay a hit on Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook behind the Chicago net.

Seabrook seemed to get his elbow up and make contact with Murray’s head.

The 23-year-old has had tough luck with injuries throughout his young hockey career.

Murray was the No. 2 pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, but had his draft +1 season limited to just 22 WHL games after undergoing shoulder surgery.

He appeared in just 12 games for the Blue Jackets in 2014-15, after battling knee and ankle injuries, before playing in all 82 games last season, scoring four goals and 21 assists.

He’s currently in the first year of a two-year contract worth $5.65 million signed last February.
