Blue Jackets’ Zach Werenski exits vs. Islanders with upper-body injury

Zach Werenski left the game with a shoulder injury after this collision with Anders Lee.

Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Zach Werenski exited Saturday’s game with an upper-body injury and will not return, the team announced.

Werenski sustained the injury after colliding with New York Islanders forward Anders Lee.

Less than four minutes into the game, Werenski skated back toward the Columbus net as Lee skated toward the crease to follow his shot. Lee collided with Werenski and hit his left shoulder — the same one the 22-year-old defenceman had surgery on in July.

Werenski’s status moving forward is not yet known. He leads the Blue Jackets’ defencemen in goals (six) and points (16).
