Blues bet on Jake Allen, sign goaltender to 4-year extension

The St. Louis Blues paved the way for Jake Allen to take over No. 1 goaltender duties when they traded Brian Elliott to the Calgary Flames at the NHL Draft.

The Blues signed Allen to a four-year, $17.4-million contract extension, the team announced Friday. Allen’s extension kicks in to start the 2017-18 season.

“I’m so excited to be a Blue for the next five years. This is where I want to be,” Allen said. “This is the place that drafted me and made me the goalie I am today. I want to be a Blue forever and I’m looking forward to being able to stay here for the next five years.

“With the contract out of the way, now I can focus on hockey and worry about winning a championship.”

Allen appeared in 47 games with the Blues in 2015-16, finishing with a 26-15-3 record to go along with a 2.35 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.

The 25-year-old is has a 47-26-15 record to go with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .915 save-percentage for his career.
