The St. Louis Blues have announced they will be without defenceman Jay Bouwmeester for the remainder of the season.

Bouwmeester suffered the injury in Saturday’s game against the Dallas Stars, and is expected to be out of commission for the next four to six months.

The 34-year-old has had an injury riddled 2017-18 campaign, missing the first 21 games of the season after fracturing his left ankle while attempting to block a shot during a training camp scrimmage on Sept. 17.

The Edmonton, Alta. native has missed several games since due to various ailments and the Blues will sorely miss the 1,106 NHL games of veteran savvy he brings to the table. The Blues are currently two points behind the L.A. Kings for the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference.

24-year-old Jordan Schmaltz currently looks the most likely candidate to take over from where Bouwmeester left off.
