Here’s one:
Brad Boyes has more points in 36 career games against the Leafs (27) than David Clarkson had in 108 games for the Leafs (26).
After the sting of that information fades away, take comfort in the fact that the past is in the past and the prodigal son has returned.
At Leafs media day last month, before he even had a contract, I asked Boyes what was his fondest memory playing against the Leafs. After all, the Leafs were the ones who drafted him in the first round, 24th overall back in 2000, only to trade him away to the San Jose Sharks in the Owen Nolan deal.
I thought maybe he would reference his shootout winner for the St. Louis Blues at the Air Canada Centre back in 2008.
But his answer wasn’t about something he did to the Leafs on the ice. It was about what the Leafs did for him off the ice.
The team that traded him away before he even got to wear their jersey on the ice, brought his grandfather to come see him play.
Now, over a decade later, Brad Boyes will finally suit up for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
