After stepping down from his role with the Calgary Flames, Brian Burke will be joining Sportsnet for the remainder of 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Flames announced on Friday that Burke would be “stepping back” from his duties as president of hockey operations of Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation.

“Brian is one of the most experienced, respected and knowledgeable executives in all of hockey,” President of Sportsnet and NHL Properties Scott Moore said in a release. “We are thrilled to have him join the team, bolstering what is already a stellar roster of NHL hosts, commentators, analysts and insiders. He will provide a unique perspective in which we believe Canadian hockey fans will be extremely interested.”

Burke will make his first appearance during Sportsnet’s NHL playoff coverage this weekend.

“I’m thrilled to be joining an outstanding team at Sportsnet,” Burke said. “Hockey is king in Canada and I look forward to being part of the group that is consistently delivering the best hockey content to fans across the country on all platforms.”

Prior to his time with the Flames, Burke gained three decades worth of front-office experience that included time as the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks.
