Boston Bruins defenceman Kevan Miller suffered a concussion Saturday when he was hit from behind into the boards, according to head coach Claude Julien.
Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek delivered the hit and was assessed a five-minute major on the play.
The hit was unusual, as Voracek himself turned as he went to make contact with Miller, their backs colliding before Miller went into the end boards.
Flyers GM Ron Hextall disagreed with the penalty.
“It was a terrible call,” Hextall said, according to CSN Philly. “In my mind, it wasn’t a penalty. Jake goes in to forecheck, which is what he’s supposed to do… I don’t understand why that was called. To me it’s not a two-minute minor, let alone a five-minute penalty. And did it affect the game? Yes. Did it lose us the game? No.”
Voracek played in Sunday’s contest against the Washington Capitals.
Miller, 29, has three assists in 26 games played this season.
