Bruins’ Matt Grzelcyk in concussion protocol, won’t travel to St. Louis

Watch as Matt Grzelcyk is injured after a hard forecheck by Oskar Sundqvist in Game 2 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.

The Boston Bruins won’t have defenceman Matt Grzelcyk with them when they travel to St. Louis on Thursday.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters that Grzelcyk is currently listed as day-to-day while in concussion protocol.

Grzelcyk was injured late in the first period of Wednesday’s Game 2 when he was on the receiving end of a high hit from Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist. He went down immediately, holding his head, and left the game and did not return.

Sundqvist was issued a two-minute minor penalty at the time, but will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety and could face a suspension for boarding.

Game 3 takes place Saturday night in St. Louis, with the series tied 1-1.
