The Phoenix Coyotes have claimed forward Gilbert Brule off re-entry waivers from the Edmonton Oilers.
On Monday, the Oilers called up Brule, along with Magnus Paajarvi and Ryan O’Marra, from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League in an attempt to bolster its roster while the club deals with injuries to Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Brule was the only player that needed to clear re-entry waivers in order to be placed back in the Oilers lineup.
The 25-year-old was selected sixth-overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The Oilers acquired Brule in a trade for Raffi Torres in the summer of 2008.
In 117 games with the Oilers, Brule had 26 goals and 49 points. This season with Barons, Brule has eight goals, 18 points in 27 games.
The Oilers host the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday where they look to turn things around. The team has lost 10 of its last 12 games.
