The New Jersey Devils named veteran defenceman Bryce Salvador as their new captain on Thursday.
Oh captain my captain! @brycesalvador will be the newest captain of your #NJDevils! Patrik Elias & Ilya Kovalchuk will remain alternates.

Salvador replaces Zach Parise in the role after the American forward signed with the Minnesota Wild in July. Patrick Elias and Ilya Kovalchuk will serve as assistant captains.
The 36-year-old spent seven seasons with the St. Louis Blues before he was acquired by New Jersey in 2008. In his three full years with the Devils, he averaged 79 games per season.
Salvador scored nine points in 82 games last season before a breakout performance in the playoffs with four goals and 14 points in just 24 games.
The Devils rewarded him for his playoff efforts when he scored a three-year, $9.5 million contract extension over the summer.
Salavador becomes the 10th captain in franchise history.
