Brian Burke has offered Mike Cammalleri a new contract but nothing has been finalized, the Calgary Flames sniper confirmed Tuesday.
“We’ve been talking,” Cammalleri told reporters Tuesday. “Brian has presented an offer and I guess we’ll continue to talk here.”
Cammalleri is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and with the Flames struggling this season the 31-year-old has been surrounded by trade rumours.
NHL Trade Deadline: Calgary Flames team needs
“I’m not ignorant to the fact there’s a deadline coming up that might have implications,” Cammalleri said. “Brian’s been great as far as he’s just been really open and honest and the lines of communication have been good. I’m sure that will continue.”
The Richmond Hill, Ont., native scored a career-high 39 goals in 2008-09 with the Flames after playing the first six seasons of his NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings. Following the ‘08-09 campaign, Cammalleri signed a five-year, $30-million contract as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens before being traded back to the Flames in January 2012.
“I like it here,” Cammalleri added. “I’ve got nothing but fantastic things to say about Calgary.”
