Calgary Flames goalie Mike Smith was seen wearing his new pads on Wednesday, with black being the most dominant colour.

Smith had an all-black equipment set he wore frequently with the Arizona Coyotes, and it appears he’ll continue to use a dark look with his new team.

While the colour of a goalie’s pads may seem innocuous, it’s worth remembering how much better Brian Elliott played in Calgary this past season after ditching his red set of gear for a white look.

Elliott himself went with the reds in Calgary to begin the season after sporting an all-blue motif in St. Louis in honour of Curtis Joseph.
