Canadiens’ Andrei Markov remains day-to-day, out vs. Ducks

Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty, defenceman Jeff Petry and head coach Michel Therrien comment on the impact Andrei Markov has on the lineup.

The Montreal Canadiens will be without veteran defenceman Andrei Markov when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night.

Zach Redmond will skate in his place.

Markov was injured during Saturday’s win over the Washington Capitals, playing 19:10 of ice time, and has not practised with the club.

Canadiens coach Michel Therrien listed the blueliner as day-to-day, but specified that it is not a major injury.

“We didn’t want to rush things with this injury. He’ll be re-evaluated on a daily basis,” Therrien told reporters. “The most important thing for him and for us is that he’ll be 100 percent healthy. We’re going to take a step back and hope that he’ll be able to hit the ice tomorrow and play the two other games this week. We’re in December right now. It isn’t Game 7 [of a playoff series]. We have to be smart about this.”

Up until Tuesday, Markov held the team’s second-longest iron man streak with 116 consecutive appearances. Tuesday will be his first missed game since April 3, 2015.

Tuesday also happens to be his 38th birthday.

Markov has two goals and 19 assists in 31 games this season.
