Canadiens’ Belzile won’t return to tune-up vs. Leafs after hit from Muzzin

Watch as Jake Muzzin throws his momentum into a stationary Alex Belzile, sending him flying into the boards from a dangerous distance.

Montreal Canadiens centre Alex Belzile won’t return to the team’s exhibition game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday after taking a big hit from defenceman Jake Muzzin early in the second period.

The 28-year-old from Saint-Eloi, Que., was sent flying into the boards by the Maple Leafs defenceman after trying to put away a rebound at the side of the net. Belzile was shaken up after the hit and taken off the ice.

The undrafted forward has never appeared in an NHL game after eight pro seasons.

He had 14 points in 20 games with the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, earlier this year.
