Canadiens’ Brendan Gallagher sheds non-contact jersey; return imminent

HC at Noon discussion on the Montreal Canadiens recent sluggish play, particularly Carey Price making mental errors, with John Shannon saying he’s concerned that core guys are trying to do too much.

It looks like the Montreal Canadiens will soon have some grit inserted back into their lineup, as forward Brendan Gallagher‘s return is right around the corner.

Gallagher skated on a line with David Desharnais and Paul Byron during Montreal’s morning skate Saturday and was wearing his regular practice jersey opposed to the non-contact one he had been donning.

The 24-year-old has been out since early January after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured left hand suffered when he was hit with a Shea Weber slapshot.

Canadiens coach Michel Therrien told reporters in Montreal that Gallagher won’t play Saturday against the St. Louis Blues but it’s possible he could suit up Sunday night against the Boston Bruins.

The Canadiens have gone 7-8-2 without Gallagher. He had six goals and 18 points in 39 games prior to the injury.

Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty did not participate in the morning skate due to an illness. He will be a game-time decision, according to Therrien. Al Montoya will start in net against the Blues, while Carey Price gets the nod Sunday in Boston.
