Canadiens’ Danault fined $5K for dangerous trip on Panthers’ Ekblad

Watch as Florida Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad takes exception to Montreal Canadiens centre Phillip Danault giving him a spinebuster and drops the gloves for a short fight.

Montreal Canadiens forward Phillip Danault has been fined $5,000 for “a dangerous trip” on Florida Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the the CBA.

With less than three minutes remaining in Friday night’s game, Danault upended Ekblad in the Panthers zone and threw the Florida blue-liner to the ice.

An infuriated Ekblad chased Danault down after the play and both were given five minutes for fighting, while Danault received a two-minute roughing minor for the original infraction.

The Canadiens won the game 5-3.
