Defenceman Karl Alzner has cleared waivers, the Montreal Canadiens announced Sunday.

Alzner has registered one assist in nine games with the Canadiens in 2018-19, skating an average of 17:18 minutes this season after averaging over 20 for the club last year. Through 11 games with the AHL’s Laval Rocket this season, Alzner has one goal and one assist.

Playing out the second season of the five-year deal he signed with Montreal in 2017, the 30-year-old has three more years remaining on the pact, carrying a cap hit of $4.625 million.

The Canadiens also placed forward Kenny Agostino on waivers Sunday.
