MONTREAL – Nikita Scherbak’s season has come to a close two games early.

The Montreal Canadiens forward played 10:39 and suffered a concussion at some point in a 5-4 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old, who has four goals and two assists in 26 games with the Canadiens this season, took three hits in Tuesday’s game. Two of them were from six-foot-five, 250-pound defenceman Dustin Byfuglien.

Scherbak joins captain Max Pacioretty, forwards Phillip Danault, Andrew Shaw and Ales Hemsky and defencemen Shea Weber and Victor Mete as Canadiens players who have suffered season-ending injuries.

The Canadiens (28-39-13) are currently in 29th place in the NHL standings. They will close out their season with away games against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday and against the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday.
