Canadiens forward Paul Byron day-to-day with arm injury

Watch as Paul Byron jams his wrist on a hit from Matt Benning, then slams the glass as he has to leave the game.

Paul Byron will not play Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks but the Montreal Canadiens aren’t expecting him to be out long term.

Byron left Sunday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers after injuring his left arm in a collision with Oilers defenceman Matt Benning. On Tuesday, the Canadiens said that Byron doesn’t have a fracture in his arm and is day-to-day.

In other Canadiens news, forward Andrew Shaw still hasn’t been cleared to return to game action while he recovers from a neck injury suffered in early January. Shaw practised with the Canadiens on Friday, Monday and Tuesday, and said after Monday’s skate that he’s close to returning.

“If it were up to me, I’d have been playing a lot sooner,” Shaw said. “But that’s what we have doctors for — to save us from ourselves.”

Forward Tomas Tatar missed Monday’s pre-game skate with the flu. Michael Chaput and Kenny Agostino are both expected to draw into the lineup against the Ducks if Tatar is unable to play.
