MONTREAL — After a few days of speculation, the cat is out of the bag regarding whom the Montreal Canadiens have hired as an analytics consultant.

Matt Pfeffer, a native of Peterborough, Ont., is an advanced stats specialist, who made his foray into consulting two years ago when the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s hired him.

Pfeffer did some work for both Hockey Canada and the NHL’s San Jose Sharks last season.

Pfeffer is not an employee of the Canadiens; he’s strictly working as a consultant for the team.

When reached by Sportsnet, Pfeffer would not comment on the specifics of his role, but did confirm he will be providing his services to the storied franchise.
