The Montreal Canadiens have invited Simon Després to training camp on a professional tryout, the team announced Thursday.
Després will be known to NHL fans from his years with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Anaheim Ducks.
The Laval, Que., native was selected by the Penguins in the first round (30th overall) in 2009. After spending 144 NHL games with Pittsburgh he was traded to the Ducks in 2015 where he played 49 games over three seasons.
The 26-year-old spent the 2017-18 campaign in the KHL with Bratislava Slovan. He scored four goals, adding seven assists and 84 penalty minutes in 44 games there.
