Canadiens lead Canadian teams in Stanley Cup odds

The Toronto Maple Leafs didn’t move any of their major pieces at the NHL Trade Deadline but that didn’t affect the team’s odds to win the Stanley Cup at the online sportsbooks. The free-falling Maple Leafs had already been dropped from the latest NHL futures list.

The Maple Leafs were the second of the seven Canadian teams (after the Edmonton Oilers) to get cut from the Stanley Cup odds list at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com, as they’ve fallen completely out of the playoff race over the last month. Back on February 15 the Maple Leafs were still hanging on at 500/1 on odds to win the Stanley Cup this season.

The Ottawa Senators were also back at 500/1 on those Stanley Cup betting lines on February 15, but a trio of wins on the west coast last week allowed them to stay on the list and even get a bump up to 200/1 odds as the Sens embark on a miracle run to an Eastern Conference playoff berth. The Senators still have several teams to leap past to solidify a Wild Card spot.

The top Canadian team on the latest Stanley Cup odds are the Montreal Canadiens at 10/1. The Habs weren’t able to land a top-six forward prior to the trade deadline, but they did pick up coveted defenseman Jeff Petry from the Edmonton Oilers, along with forwards Brian Flynn and Torrey Mitchell from the Buffalo Sabres. Montreal is holding down the lead in the Atlantic.

As for the other three Canadian clubs, the Vancouver Canucks are at 25/1 on the latest Stanley Cup odds at the sportsbooks, with the Calgary Flames and the Winnipeg Jets both at 33/1 odds. Those three teams are right in the mix for playoff berths in the Western Conference as they try to hold off the likes of the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings.

The defending-champion Kings are at 12/1 on the latest Stanley Cup futures despite the fact they’re still battling for their playoff lives. That has Los Angeles tied with a trio of Eastern Conference teams on that list, the New York Islanders, New York Rangers, and Pittsburgh Penguins. The St. Louis Blues are just ahead of that quartet, tied with the Habs at 10/1 odds.

Three Western Conference clubs are the top odds to win the Stanley Cup at the sportsbooks with about 20 games left in the regular season. The Chicago Blackhawks sit at 15/2 and the Anaheim Ducks and Nashville Predators both sit at 9/1. Losing Patrick Kane to injury has only slightly damaged the Blackhawks’ Cup odds over the past couple of weeks – they were favoured at 11/2 on those betting lines on February 15.
