The Winnipeg Jets and the Montreal Canadiens have traded wins and losses over their past 10 matchups dating all the way back to 2013 as the clubs meet on the ice on Thursday night. Winnipeg is a slight -125 road betting favourite (wager $125 to win $100) on the NHL odds for Thursday’s game at the Bell Centre, with Montreal the +105 underdog for the contest.
The two teams last met on April 3, 2018, with the Jets picking up a 5-4 road win in Montreal as -131 betting favourites. The Canadiens had won 5-4 as +106 road underdogs on Nov. 4, 2017, after the teams had alternated wins and losses over their prior eight matchups.
That trend puts the Canadiens in line for the win on Thursday night, and they’ve managed to put up seven wins in their past nine games to assert themselves in the battle to finish in second place behind the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Atlantic Division standings. Montreal is coming off a 4-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night as -225 home favourites.
Carey Price stopped 24 of 25 Ducks shots in that win, and Brendan Gallagher scored twice.
The Jets, meanwhile, saw a three-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night with a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks as -130 home favorites at betting sites. Winnipeg has a three-point cushion on the Nashville Predators in first place in the Central Division standings.
Elsewhere around the league on Thursday night, the Ottawa Senators host the Ducks as -105 underdogs, the Vancouver Canucks visit the Chicago Blackhawks as +125 underdogs, the Calgary Flames get a visit from the Sharks as -135 betting favourites, and the Edmonton Oilers are set as +170 road underdogs as they look for a win against the Minnesota Wild.
The Oilers gave up five third-period goals in a 6-2 loss at home to the Blackhawks in their last game on Tuesday night, failing to pay out as -150 betting favourites in the contest. Edmonton has lost six games in a row, allowing 30 goals over that stretch and producing five OVER results for totals bettors at the sportsbooks as they slide out of the Western playoff picture.
Edmonton has won just four of its past six games against Minnesota overall dating back to early 2016, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, but they’ve been slightly better at 5-5 in their last 10 games on the road against the Wild dating all the way back to early 2013.
