Canadiens’ Paul Byron won’t travel with team to Columbus

HC at Noon’s Nick Kypreos delves deep into Paul Byron’s decision to answer the bell against much larger MacKenzie Weeger, and why he deserves a ton of respect even after the bad outcome.

Montreal Canadiens forward Paul Byron won’t travel with the team for Thursday night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Byron suffered what the team called an upper-body injury after fighting Florida Panthers defenceman MacKenzie Weegar during the first period on Tuesday night. Byron was caught with an uppercut and crumpled to the ice.

The 29-year-old was able to skate off the ice but needed some assistance from a referee.

Thursday’s game is a crucial one for both the Canadiens and Blue Jackets as the two are separated by just two points in the race for the Eastern Conference’s second wild-card spot, currently held by Montreal. Columbus has a game in hand.
