The Montreal Canadiens will be without centre Phillip Danault for their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday.
Danault received a puck in the chin at the end of the second period of Montreal’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. He did not return in the game.
It was on Jan. 13 that Danault was hit in the side of the head by Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara’s slapshot. He missed 15 games with a concussion and was able to return for eight games before sitting out last Thursday’s 5-0 loss to the Florida Panthers with neck pain.
Danault played a total of 13:40 against the Lightning Saturday.
“Phillip Danault does not have a concussion,” said Canadiens coach Claude Julien on Monday morning. “But we’re going to take precaution with headaches. He won’t play tonight.”
Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw also missed the Canadiens’ skate in Columbus on Monday with an undisclosed injury and will be a game-time decision.
