Schlemko, 31, has two assists in 18 games this season and hasn’t played since Dec. 20 while recovering from an upper-body injury. The move likely means Schlemko is healthy and needs to come off injured reserve.
Veteran defenceman Karl Alzner, who was called up on Dec. 26 to fill in for the injured Schlemko, will seemingly remain with the team for now. Alzner cleared waivers on Nov. 27 and was playing with AHL Laval before his call up.
Alzner has yet to get into a game since he returned to Montreal. In eight NHL games this season he has tallied one assist.
