The Montreal Canadiens have placed forward Alexander Semin on unconditional waivers after he refused to report to the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps.
Semin and the Canadiens will mutually agree to terminate his $1.1 million contract, a decision that will require NHL approval.
Should the NHL give the go-ahead, Semin will become an unrestricted free agent and the Canadiens will be free of his cap hit.
It was reported Tuesday that Semin’s agent is currently looking for a European team to enlist his services, preferably one from the KHL.
In 15 games with the Canadiens, Semin scored one goal and three assists.
