The Montreal Canadiens had a surprise treat for a lucky pee-wee team on Friday night.
The Basse Laurentides Conquérants were invited to use the Canadiens’ practice facility for the day and Habs coach Michel Therrien encouraged a few of his players to join the kids for a little fun. But more than a few showed up – 18 Canadiens players showed up, to the delight of the 11- and 12-year-old boys.
How cool is this?
Here’s a bit more on the pick up game, from Emily Campbell of CJAD:
At one point in the game Canadien Nathan Beaulieu tackled a pee-wee player, squashing him playfully to the ice.
Far from fazed, young Felix Trudeau of the Laurentides was elated about the skirmish.
“He hit me and we started to fight, he pushed me on the floor… it’s fun!” said Trudeau in an interview with CTV Montreal.
Dale Weise of the Habs says his team had more fun than the boys did.
“To be honest with you I saw some smiles out there I haven’t seen all year…” said Weise to CTV. “Sometimes you lose one or two games, and it feels like the world is falling and for us to go out there and just have fun, that was awesome.”
The youngsters are set to participate in the famous Quebec pee-wee tournament that starts Feb. 11.
