Defenceman Karl Alzner was recalled by the Montreal Canadiens from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Laval Rocket, on an emergency basis Friday night.

Alzner joined the Canadiens in Ottawa, where Montreal will face the Senators on Saturday. He hasn’t played an NHL game since Jan. 10, 2019.

In 52 games with the Rocket this season, Alzner has one goal and 12 points. He is under contract with the Canadiens through the 2021-22 season (his contract is currently buried, according to CapFriendly).

The 31-year-old has 11 years of NHL experience and did not miss a game for eight consecutive seasons, from 2010-11 through 2017-18.
