Canadiens sign backup goalie Keith Kinkaid to one-year deal

Keith Kinkaid talked about bringing his personality to the locker room in Montreal and how excited he is to play behind Carey Price.

The Montreal Canadiens signed Keith Kinkaid to a contract Monday as support for starter Carey Price.

The backup goalie had spent his entire NHL career with the New Jersey Devils prior to being dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets ahead of the 2019 trade deadline.

Kinkaid, 29, went 15-18-6 with the Devils in 2018-19, posting a .891 save percentage and 3.36 goals-against average. He didn’t see any game action with the Blue Jackets.

Antti Niemi was the Canadiens’ backup in 2018-19 but the veteran signed overseas earlier this month.
