Canadiens sign Victor Mete to entry-level deal

The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Victor Mete to a three-year, NHL entry-level contract.

The team announced the deal Monday with Mete, 18, who had 15 goals and 44 points with the OHL’s London Knights this season. He has a goal and an assist in the Knights’ first-round series against the Windsor Spitfires, which is tied after two games.

Mete won a Memorial Cup with the Knights last season. The 5-foot-9, 174-pound blueliner has 105 points in 179 OHL games.

The Toronto native was selected in the fourth round, 100th overall, in the 2016 NHL draft.
