The Montreal Canadiens will be without defenceman Zach Redmond for six weeks after he suffered a broken foot in practice.

Redmond, 28, signed a two-year deal with the Canadiens on July 1.

The six-foot-two, 208 pound blueliner had yet to play a game this season with his new club. Redmond has previously played for the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche.

Rookie Mikhail Sergachev has been given a shot on defence so far this year, suiting up in two games for the Habs. The 18-year-old first round pick was in the lineup for Thursday night’s game against the Arizona Coyotes.
