Canucks’ Antoine Roussel fined $5K for biting Sharks’ Marc-Edouard Vlasic

Watch closely as Antoine Roussel appears to bite Marc-Edouard Vlasic during a scrum in the Canucks and Sharks game.

Vancouver Canucks forward Antoine Roussel has been fined $5,000 for biting San Jose Sharks defenceman Marc-Edouard Vlasic, the maximum allowed under the CBA.

The play occurred late in the third-period of a 4-0 Sharks win Friday night. With the game out of reach for the Canucks, Roussel and Vlasic began a scrum in front of the Sharks’ bench that quickly involved everyone else on the ice. With the linesmen tying the two players up, Roussel can be seen biting at Vlasic’s hand, which is pushing against the Canucks forward’s face.

Roussel has been fined once and suspended once throughout his seven year NHL career, but hasn’t had an infraction since 2015. In 21 games this season with Vancouver, his first with the Canucks, he has three goals, eight points and 65 penalty minutes.
