Vancouver Canucks forward Derek Dorsett will undergo cervical fusion surgery, the team announced Monday.
The procedure is intended to repair disc degeneration in Dorsett’s neck. The 29-year-old winger is expected to make a full recovery and return to play, though no definitive timeline was provided by the club.
“The decision to perform surgery was made after a thorough review of our options including non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation,” Canucks general manager Jim Benning said via the team’s press release. “Derek, our Canucks medical team and Dr. Watkins believe that surgery offers the best outcome both for his career and long-term health. Derek is an important member of our team and we are optimistic for a full recovery.”
The surgery will take place in Los Angeles at the Marina Del Rey Hospital spine clinic.
Dorsett has not played a game since Nov. 17. He has one goal and three assists for four points in 14 games this season.
