Canucks’ Hansen fined $5,000 for illegal check

Tommy Wingels of the Sharks seemed dazed and had hard time getting to his feet after taking this hit from Vancouver's Jannik Hansen.

Jannik Hansen faced supplemental punishment for his hit on Tommy Wingels Tuesday night.

The NHL announced Wednesday that the Vancouver forward has been fined $5,000 for an illegal check to the head on San Jose’s Wingels. The fine is the maximum amount allowed under the collective bargaining agreement.

Hansen was assessed a two-minute penalty on the play.

Despite this transgression, Canucks coach Willie Desjardins said Tuesday’s game was Hansen’s best of the season. He scored a goal and had four shots in 13:13 of ice time.
