Canucks’ Kesler has surgery, out for 6 months

Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler underwent successful shoulder surgery to repair his torn labrum, the team announced on Tuesday.

Kesler is expected to make a full recovery in six months — pushing his return to the Canucks lineup sometime in November.

“After consultation with our team physicians following the playoffs, it was deemed that Ryan would require a procedure on his shoulder,” said president and general manager Mike Gillis in a press release. “We expect a full recovery and determined this procedure would best serve the team’s and Ryan’s long term goals.”

In 77 games this season, the 27-year-old tallied 22 goals and 27 assists.

He amassed three assists in the post-season, as the Canucks were eliminated in the first round by the Los Angeles Kings in five games.
