Vancouver Canucks defenceman Quinn Hughes will return to the team’s lineup on Tuesday night against the St. Louis Blues after suffering a bruised knee during a game last week.

The 20-year-old rookie fell in the first period Friday against the Anaheim Ducks and didn’t return to the game.

Hughes said he thought he caught a rut in the ice and as his left ankle torqued, it pushed his knee forward and resulted in the soreness.

“It happened so fast and I couldn’t really tell on the ice. I was pretty worried. I didn’t know what it would be,” said Hughes.

“In the heat of the game, you’ve got stuff going through your mind like: ‘What could this be?’ I think you’ve just got to stay calm and let the doctors do their job. It was good.”

A key cog on the Canucks’ back end, Hughes has 10 points in 12 games so far this season.
