Canucks star rookie Brock Boeser out with hand injury

Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos both scored as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-2.

Vancouver Canucks rookie of the year candidate Brock Boeser is out of the lineup due to a hand injury.

The Canucks play the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night without their 20-year-old leading scorer, who was hurt late in Vancouver’s 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

Canucks head coach Travis Green said during his pre-game press availability in Raleigh, N.C., that it’s too early to say how long Boeser will be unavailable.

Last month’s NHL All-Star Game MVP scored his 26th goal of the season in Tampa and is second in rookie scoring with 47 points in 51 games, six points behind New York Islanders’ Mathew Barzal.
