The Washington Capitals are nearing a deal with NCAA defenceman Kristofers Bindulis, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Bindulis had one goal and 11 assists in 28 games during his freshman season with Lake Superior State University.

Prior to the NCAA, the six-foot-three, 181-pound Latvian split time between the Soo Eagles and Aston Rebels of the North American Hockey League. Bindulis also spent part of the 2014-15 season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League.
