For many NHL goaltenders, the mask serves an extension of their being.
Whether it’s an homage to a great from years past, a nod to a favourite film or band, or just a really creative design… goalie masks make for a cool avenue of expression.
Washington Capitals goalies Braden Holtby and Justin Peters are using their masks as a tool to fight cancer as part of Hockey Fights Cancer, the NHL’s initiative to raise money and awareness.
Edmonton Oilers goaltender Ben Scrivens unveiled a new mask last week, which was designed by Richard Boulet to help raise awareness for mental health.
This is some great work from Scrivens, Holtby, and Peters. Hopefully more goaltenders take aim at raising awareness for other social issues.
