Washington Capitals defenceman John Carlson will not play in Thursday’s round-robin game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Norris Trophy finalist also missed Washington’s first round-robin game – a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning – after suffering an injury in the Capitals’ exhibition tilt against the Carolina Hurricanes on July 29. The 30-year-old blue-liner was forced to leave that game after an awkward tumble into the boards.

Carlson led all defenceman in the 2019-20 regular season with 75 points in 69 games, setting a new career high for points and tying his previous career-best of 15 goals.
