Capitals’ Tom Wilson to have in-person hearing Wednesday

Watch as Tom Wilson gets a game misconduct after taking out Oskar Sundqvist with an open-ice hit to the head in pre-season action.

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson will have an in-person hearing on Wednesday with the NHL’s department of player safety.

Wilson hit St. Louis Blues centre Oskar Sundqvist with an illegal check to the head during a pre-season tilt on Sunday. Wilson was given a game misconduct as a result and could now face a suspension of six games or more.

Wilson, who signed a six-year, $31-million deal in July, is no stranger to these types of controversies. He was involved in multiple incidents during Washington’s run to the Stanley Cup, which included a three-game suspension during the second-round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins for a hit on rookie Zach Aston-Reese.

The 24-year-old Wilson has been suspended three times in his NHL career.
