Blackhawks, Wild unveil Stadium Series sweaters

Daniel Sedin’s had a hat trick and an assist, and twin Henrik had a goal and four assists to propel the Canucks to a 6-3 win.

New sweaters in time for Christmas.

The Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks, a staple of the outdoor-game circuit, unveiled the sweaters they’ll wear for their 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game Tuesday morning, just in time to rile up their die-hard fans for Black Friday’s shopping frenzy.

The four six-pointed red stars on the collar of the Blackhawks’ white jersey are borrowed from the City of Chicago’s flag, and the black shoulder yoke is a visual representation of the town’s nickname, the “City of Big Shoulders.” The team’s secondary logos overlap the top three stripes on the sleeve rather than the traditional shoulder placement.

The Wild, to at least one man’s dismay, did not go for a Minnesota North Stars throwback.

“I really like the jersey’s classic look, the addition of the State of Hockey logo and the ‘M’ mark to our uniform,” Wild captain Mikko Koivu said in a release.

“It’s an exciting step towards our first outdoor game, which is going to be a great celebration for our fans and the entire State of Hockey.”

The Wild host the Blackhawks at TCF Bank Stadium on Feb. 21 as part of the NHL’s Stadium Series.
