Watch as Chris VandeVelde of the Philadelphia Flyers is given a penalty for an elbow on Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews.

Chris VandeVelde has been suspended for two games, without pay, Friday for elbowing Jonathan Toews during the Philadelphia Flyers victory over the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday.

The incident occurred at 19:30 of the first period, and VandeVelde was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing.

The Blachawks captain left the bench briefly but remained in the game. Toews even scored a goal in the second period.

“He was the first to say I was an honest player,” VandeVelde told reporters after he apologized to Toews.

Based on his average annual salary, VandeVelde will forfeit $7,661.30. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The depth forward has 13 points in 69 games this season.
