Coach’s Corner: ‘The Canadians are the best’

Don Cherry and Ron MacLean talk about all the news and notes from around the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Don Cherry has always had a soft spot for Canadian hockey players.

In Monday’s edition of Coach’s Corner, Cherry gave high praise for his countrymen still playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

“(The Blues) were going to play the Canadian national anthem because 14 of them were Canadian and all the coaches were Canadian,” Cherry said. “I knew they would never get away with that because the U.S. is pretty good but they forgot.

“On San Jose, they have 11 Canadians on that team too and all the coaches are Canadian nationally, so what I’m saying is, in the playoffs, the Canadians are the best.”

The Sharks lead St. Louis 1-0 in their Western Conference final series with Game 2 taking place Tuesday night.

The Blues made a push to attract Canadians to cheer for them for the remainder of the playoffs prior to the series with a video post.

In the video, St. Louis pointed towards the fact that they have the most Canadians remaining on their roster than any other team.
