Less than one month into 18-year-old Connor McDavid‘s freshman campaign and just one day after scooping NHL Rookie of the Month honours for October, the Edmonton Oilers centre suffered a broken collarbone when he crashed into the boards Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

With 12 points through 13 games, McDavid heads to the sidelines for months, opening a gaping hole in Edmonton’s lineup, the Calder Trophy race, and the league’s excitement.
