The Boston Bruins are not having the kind of season the club has grown accustomed to in recent years. 18-15-3 might be an acceptable record heading into the New Year for many teams, but it’s a disappointing look for the Bruins right now.
During this week’s “Headlines” segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Damien Cox touched on the Bruins’ struggles, noting the difficulty the club has faced in finding a replacement for Jarome Iginla on centre David Krejci’s wing.
According to Cox, one player the club may lean on to help fill the void is 2014 first round draft pick David Pastrnak.

Pastrnak played five games with the Bruins earlier this season and is currently playing with the Czech Republic at the World Junior Championship. The 18-year old could join the club following the tournament.
Krejci has appeared in just 17 games this season due to injury. Milan Lucic and Seth Griffith have played the bulk of minutes on Krejci’s line in even-strength situations, but neither has worked out to be the match the Bruins are looking for to this point.
Krejci has four goals and 11 points so far in 2014-15.
Pastrnak, selected 25th overall last June, has one assist in five games this season. He has 10 goals and 27 points in 23 games with the AHL’s Providence Bruins.
