Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault left Friday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks after Dan Carcillo hit him with a cheap cross-check from behind. According to Sportsnet’s Damien Cox, Perreault “will be out for a little while.”
“The injury has not yet been disclosed, but I can tell you it’s believed to be a torn ligament in his elbow.” said Cox.
The play in question has raised some opinions about whether or not Carcillo should be suspended. Jets coach Paul Maurice called the check “vicious.”
Carcillo was issued a two-minute minor for cross-checking on the play, but has since been contacted by the league.
“We know Dan Carcillo’s going to have an in-person hearing with the National Hockey League for his cross-check on Mathieu Perreault, his vicious cross-check on him,” said Cox. “That doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll get more than five games. it means Stephane Quintal has the option to give him more than five games.”
The incident happened just three days after Perreault’s career-best game, scoring four goals versus the Florida Panthers to boost the Jets to an 8-2 win.
